Explanation: Motorcycle Safety Gear

In order to pass your motorcycle permit exams and to become a safe rider, it’s important to know why a particular answer on the motorcycle written test is correct.

A plastic, impact-resistant face shield is recommended in order to protect both your eyes and your entire face.

This will protect your whole face in the event of a crash, but will also protect you from wind, dirt, dust, water, insects, and road debris as you drive.

Getting hit with something in the face or eyes while riding can be extremely painful, distracting, and dangerous.

Face shields are better than goggles because they give you full face protection.

They are also better than glasses because they will stay put at higher speeds and in the wind.

A good motorcycle face shield should be:

  • Free from damage and scratches.
  • Resistant to impact and shatter.
  • Able to give you a full, clear view.
  • Fastened securely to your helmet.
  • Fog-resistant.

You can find more information about this topic in the motorcycle rider’s handbook.
