Explanation: Riding through Curves

In order to pass your motorcycle permit exams and to become a safe rider, it’s important to know why a particular answer on the motorcycle written test is correct.

The best lane position when riding through a curve will depend on the level of traffic, the conditions of the road, and the type of curve you are riding through.

It is always important to select your lane position based on the situation and conditions you face.

In many cases, it can be smart to start the curve near the center lane position so that you can adjust to the left or right as necessary.

Remember, improper technique when riding through a curve is the number one cause of single-vehicle motorcycle crashes.

Slow down, shift gears, and brake before you enter the curve.

Press in the direction you are turning, and look through the curve.

Roll on the throttle as you move through the curve.

Be careful when riding in the left lane position in a curve as traffic coming from the opposite direction may crowd you.

You can find more information about this topic in the motorcycle rider’s handbook.
