Explanation: Motorcycle Controls

In order to pass your motorcycle permit exams and to become a safe rider, it’s important to know why a particular answer on the motorcycle written test is correct.

Before you start riding a motorcycle that’s new to you, you should first familiarize yourself with the layout and functions of all the different controls, buttons, and levers.

On most modern motorcycles, the horn button can be found on the left side handgrip control.

To operate the horn, simply press the button. You can hold the button for a longer horn.

Your motorcycle’s horn is quieter than a car’s, but it can still be used if you need to get a driver’s attention to prevent a collision.

When necessary, hold down the horn button so it is loud and long.

However, you should never rely on your horn as a last resort. Always have an escape route in mind to avoid the collision.

You can find more information about this topic in the motorcycle rider’s handbook.
