Explanation: Bright and Visible Colors for Motorcyclists

In order to pass your motorcycle permit exams and to become a safe rider, it’s important to know why a particular answer on the motorcycle written test is correct.

One thing you can do to increase your safety while riding a motorcycle is to wear clothing that is bright and reflective.

Bright, reflective colors are far more visible and easier to see during the day and night compared to drab, dark, and neutral colors.

Some of the best colors for motorcyclists to wear to increase their chances of being seen include bright oranges, reds, yellows, and greens.

Look for helmets, jackets, and pants with these as their primary colors or consider wearing a bright, reflective vest over your protective jacket.

Remember, even if you are dressed as visibly as possible, there is still a good chance that other drivers will not see you. Your best bet is to make yourself as visible as possible while still pretending that you are invisible to everyone else.

Be sure to constantly scan for hazards and risks so that you can avoid them before they cause you problems.

You can find more information about this topic in the motorcycle rider’s handbook.
