How to Register a Motorcycle in Arizona

In order to ride your motorcycle on public roadways in Arizona, you’ll need to make sure it is registered and that your registration is valid. 

When you buy a motorcycle, you’ll first need to transfer the title and get an insurance policy. Next, you’ll need to get it registered and get your Arizona motorcycle license plates and stickers.

Arizona Motorcycle Registration Steps

Registering a motorcycle in Arizona is basically the same process as registering any other vehicle.

If necessary, you’ll also need to complete any motorcycle inspections as required by the AZ DMV.

How to register a motorcycle in Arizona:

  1. Complete a Title and Registration Application: https://apps.azdot.gov/files/mvd/mvd-forms-lib/96-0236.pdf 
  2. Submit the signed and notarized motorcycle title. 
  3. Pay the registration fees and taxes. 

If you’ve just bought a motorcycle, you’ll need to title and register it within 15 days of the purchase. 

If you’ve just moved to AZ, you’ll also have 15 days to transfer your out-of-state plates. 

Renew Motorcycle Registration in Arizona

In order to avoid any traffic tickets or late fees, you’ll want to make sure that your Arizona motorcycle registration and license plate stickers are valid. 

Your motorcycle registration will expire on the last day of the month or the 15th of the month. Check with your registration renewal notice to confirm. 

Motorcycles are registered for periods of either 1, 2, or 5 years. 

Your options for renewing your Arizona motorcycle registration include:

  • In person.
  • Over the phone.
  • Online.
  • By mail.

The information and items you’ll need in order to complete your motorcycle registration renewal include:

  • Your registration record number.
  • The last 2 digits of your motorcycle VIN.
  • Your personal information and mailing address.
  • Payment for your renewal fees.

In Arizona, you’ll be able to renew your motorcycle’s tags up to 6 months before they expire.

Depending on the type of bike you have, you may also need to complete the necessary motorcycle inspections when you renew your motorcycle registration.
