Completing a West Virginia motorcycle safety course is one of the best ways to learn how to ride.

West Virginia Motorcycle Training Course Details

WV motorcycle classes are available to all riders who are eligible for a learner’s permit. You will need to have a valid driver’s license or learner’s permit in order to enroll. 

Courses are generally offered from March through October each year. 

Completing the class will allow you to skip the motorcycle skills test. 

The training location will provide a motorcycle for you, and will typically include some of the following models:

  • Honda CB125S. 
  • Honda CB125TT. 
  • Honda Rebel 250. 
  • Honda NX125. 
  • Suzuki GN125.

  • Suzuki GZ250. 
  • Suzuki DR125. 
  • Kawasaki KE100. 
  • Kawasaki Eliminator 125.
  • Yamaha Route 66 250.

Classes have a maximum of 12 students to ensure each individual gets enough hands-on instruction and coaching. 

When you arrive for your skills portion of the course, you’ll need to wear:

  • A DOT-approved motorcycle helmet. 
  • Eye protection. 
  • A long-sleeve shirt or protective jacket. 
  • Long pants made of durable material with snug-fitting cuffs. 
  • Sturdy boots that cover your ankles. 
  • Full finger protective gloves.

How long is the West Virginia motorcycle safety course?

The West Virginia motorcycle safety course typically consists of a total of 15 hours, including:

What is covered in the rider training course?

The curriculum and exercises for your motorcycle safety course are developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), the West Virginia motorcycle safety and training coordinator and its administering agency. 

During your course, you’ll gain hands-on riding experience along with classroom instruction. 

The classroom portion will generally consist of 5 hours, including a motorcycle knowledge exam.

The hands-on training will typically last for 10 hours over 2 days, and end with a skills evaluation.
