In order to ride a moped legally in Hawaii, you’ll need to be sure to follow the rules and regulations. Failing to do so could result in traffic tickets, fines, or a suspended license. 

In Hawaii, the definition of a moped is a device with 2 or 3 wheels with an engine no more than 2hp or 1,492 watts, less than 50cc, an automatic transmission, and a top speed of no faster than 30 mph. 

Riders under 18 years old must wear a helmet.

Do you need a license to drive a moped in Hawaii?

In Hawaii, you will generally need a valid driver’s license to legally ride a moped on public roads.
