If you already have a valid Utah motorcycle license, you’ll definitely be ready to ride a moped or <50cc scooter. In fact, that’s typically the safest route to go. 

Utah Moped Laws for <50cc Scooters

In order to ride a moped legally in Utah, you’ll need to be sure to follow the rules and regulations. Failing to do so could result in traffic tickets, fines, or a suspended license. 

Utah treats mopeds (>90cc) like motorcycles for registration, title, and licensing purposes.

Do you need a license to drive a moped in Utah?

In Utah, you will generally need a motorcycle endorsement to legally ride a moped on public roads. 

How to Get a Utah Moped License

Since Utah requires a motorcycle license to ride a moped, you’ll usually need to:

  • Visit the DPS.
  • Complete an application and provide proof of your identity. 
  • Pass a vision test. 
  • Pass a knowledge exam. 
  • Complete an MSF Basic Rider Course. 
  • Tale the skills test on the class of bike you are interested in riding. 

Depending on what size bike you take your skills test on, you will be restricted as follows:

  • 90cc or under. 
  • 249cc or under. 
  • 649cc or under. 
  • 650+ (unrestricted).

Utah Moped Registration & Insurance

Utah mopeds require a title, registration, and insurance. 

You’ll need to present:

  • Proof of ownership. 
  • A VIN inspection. 
  • A registration and title application. 
  • A safety inspection certificate. 
  • Title and registration fees.
